Happy Monday everyone and welcome to my new blogserie; Featuring stylish stockphotographers! Over the next few weeks I’ll be spotlighting some of my favorite stockphotographers. When I’m designing websites for my clients (most of the time small business owners) one of the first things that comes to the table is that they don’t have the money for their own brand photography. Stylish stockphotography is a great way to start!
This week I would like to introduce you to Sandra, the creative talent behind Her Creative Studio. Let’s dive in!
“Her Creative Studio creates thoughtful, clean styled stock photography for creatives, shop owners, bloggers and women entrepreneurs who crave a fabulous brand but struggle to do it themselves.”
Tell me something about yourself: What is your background? Is stock photography your full time job?
Hi, i’m Sandra! I am the entrepreneur and photographer behind Her Creative Studio and I began this adventure equally motivated by a passion to raise my girls from home and a desire to support women in business. I’m what’s known as a ‘multi passionate creative’ with a background in graphic design and a love for photography and visual arts. Yes, it’s full time!
How would you describe your style?
My personal style is clean lines, muted colours, lots of white space and feminine details. As a stock photographer I focus on the little details and thoughtfully style each collection in new and fresh ways while still being true to my unique esthetic.
Why do you think a visual identity is so important?
First impressions are everything! Your visual identity is important because it tells the story of you and your brand. It builds trust with your audience and creates an experience that inspires and motivates them to work with you or buy from you.
What do you think makes an excellent website?
For me, an excellent website is clean and easy to navigate. It should instantly tell your visitor who you are and what you offer. It’s a perfect opportunity to express your personal style visually, prove your credibility and create a memorable customer experience.
What does your typical workday look like?
Everyday is different! After my husband and I walk our girls to school you’ll find me in my home studio shooting or on my laptop designing, editing and emailing clients. When I need a break I walk or brunch with girlfriends (coffee for me, please!) and of course, I also source props (yep, I’m shopping). I stop working at 3, grab my girls at school and devote time to my family. I’m a night owl and workaholic so on nights I’m not busy, I’m back on my laptop designing and working on future projects with Netflix on in the background.
Why do you think storytelling is so important in brand design? And can it still be unique when you use stock photos?
Storytelling is one way we can relate to our target group. It’s how we can find and build a community of like minded people. Using styled stock images can absolutely be an authentic way to promote you and your brand. Similar to choosing a pair of shoes or the perfect sofa for your living space, the images you choose reflect you and your tastes and that translates to your audience. Really great styled stock photography will tell a story, showcase a product or elicit excitement about an event. Combining them with your fonts, logo and colour palette will make them unique to you and make your brand stand out.
Who inspires you?
I am inspired everyday by my husband and two daughters. For motivation in business I always turn to Marie Forleo and for daily doses of creative joy I’m on Instagram double clicking my favourites. See you there!
